My brood of boys that won't sit still
I love Halloween and have so many great memories from my childhood that focus on the gathering of candy for hours on end and then shoving sweet confections in my mouth until I rolled over moaning. It's just the best.I still love it as an adult. Really, I just love watching my son have a blast like I did as a child. I follow him closely as he runs like a lunatic from house to house with bright red cheeks and sweat on his brow. We gathered with a group of friends one neighborhood over from ours (we live in a sprawling neighborhood with reclusive professors that don't hand out candy...sigh). We had quite a motley crew of around 10 kids...give or take a kid that got left in the dust as the older kids ran like hell.
Highlights included...
*Griffin abandoning his Ninja Turtle shell and announcing that he had joined the dark side to hang with an older kid dressed as Darth Vadar.
*I overheard Griffin shout in excitement to Darth Vadar "They should call this place Candyland!"
*When running upon a house with tons of decorations, Griffin gasped and yelled "This.House.Is.Awesome!"
*Anytime a car drove by, all of the adults yelled "CAR!" (like when we were kids playing Dodgeball in the street and a car came) and scurried to grab a child's hand while they resisted and tried to run away to trick or treat.
It was a fun night and I felt so happy and blessed when my Ninja Turtle turned evil Jedi gave me a huge hug and said with a mouthful of candy...
"I love you Mom, thanks for taking me trick or treating!"
Ah...to be young again.

How cute! It occurred to me as I was handing out candy to kids that we were part of very crucial memories in these kids' childhood. My boyfriend's mom had the most decorated house in the neighborhood with floating ghosts and CD players playing scary noises and we both dressed in costume.
My highlight of the night was getting the Hell home.
How nice!! My highlight was the 17 year old wearing the hooker costume while toting her baby...yup, that was it.
I'm glad you guys had so much fun!
My boys wouldn't sit still either! I love halloween too! Amazing how much fun getting a little piece of candy from a stranger can be!
I came to you via "Speaking from the Crib" and couldn't stop reading. My cereal is now mush. Love your Scary Mommy entry - so much I just had to grab your button & join.
Kids make everything sooo much better. Don't they!!!
Sounds like lots of fun and special memories!
so cute!! and man, that dark side is just too tempting to kids! so, did they get you any good candy??
How sweet and thoughtful for your little boy to thank you for taking him. :)
awwww your children are adorable! those trick or treatin' days were the best ever. i agree...to be young again (only for that day though!! lol)
You weren't kidding when you said running like a maniac!
sounds like a great time! It is always wonderful to let the kids be kids. That is why we like going where we do because we can safely turn them loose!
Have a great day!

Great Costumes! Looks like a fine time!! :D
Thanks for popping over for my special day! Have a great week!
Your Halloween sounds a little like ours. I bribed my friends over with chili and wine and 12 kids ran around the neighborhood while the adults yelled "Car!".
The Candyland comment is classic!

I can't wait until my little one can trick-or-treat like this! How exciting! (And tiring for you, mom, I'm sure. Haha)
