I have been feeling a sense of accomplishment that I survived the last year with two kids. I reread this Post the other day and can proudly say that I can laugh at it now. I just had to repost it now that I am so much more experienced and all the wiser. Ha...I'm still outnumbered over here. I hope that you enjoy the insanity that was my life this time last year.
Mom to Two
So...I look like hell in this picture. I had just given birth and my hair is a mess. If you could see inside my flesh though, you would see a huge red heart swelling with pride. I love that I have 2 kids now. Not that it hasn't been an adjustment.
I had my first taste of my new role the other day. My mom has been staying with us and she is a HUGE help. Well, she went to the bathroom for 4 minutes the other afternoon and in that time, everything went to hell and it went fast!
Koen opened his eyes from a long nap and was starving. His little voice whimpered and as I picked him up to nurse him, Griffin yelled over the crying "I NEED A SNACK!" Full of guilt that he is not the only boy in my life anymore, I high tailed it to the kitchen to get him his snack before I settled down to nurse. Koen was screaming and sucking on my cheek as I prepared Griffin's snack with one hand. I broke it down step by step as Koen tried his hardest to suck milk out of my chin...put the pretzels in a bowl, calmly grab a juice box, "You are in control, everything is okay." I tried to tell myself.
I handed Griffin his snack and he demanded "Put it over there." then he started to really sass me "STOP HIM FROM SCREAMING! GO AWAY MOM!" Koen was in hysterics at this point and sucking on my nose. I was trying my hardest to get the damn straw into the juice box by using my teeth and one hand. I didn't have the energy to discipline Griffin at that moment and I was fed up. I threw the juice box on the couch to flee the scene and nurse Koen. The juice box promptly landed on Griffin's bowl and sent his pretzels flying into the air.
Griffin lost it. "You threw food at me!" He was crying, Koen was screaming, I started crying as I gathered up his spilled pretzels and then I escaped into the other room leaving Griffin to stew alone with his abused snack.
I sobbed while I nursed Koen.
My mom came out of the bathroom. "What happened in there?" My mom asked gently. "Griffin said that you threw food at him, but I told him that it must have been an accident because mom would never do that."
"No mom", I said between sobs, "I didn't throw food at him, it was a juice box and you are never allowed to go to the bathroom again!"

I agree..a juicebox is clearly not food.
lol.
The first weeks with a newborn and a preschooler are T-O-U-G-H! It's amazing what happens in a year.
i remember when i first came home with the baby. li'l tot was only three.
that's all i remember.
Ha Ha! Oh my goodness--I needed that laugh this morning! Airborne food! I think I was equally as confused as to who to help first when I had my 2nd baby. I remember feeling guilty that I had another baby, and my first had to share me. Now I just laugh about that.
Awww, isn't it fun to look back and see that you survived that phase that was so hard? Even with a 4th grader I need to remember that it's only a phase!
That was funny to read, although I know that it would not have been at the time. Your photo tells a picture of true pride and bliss however who would have known! Thanks for sharing, and by the way, your red necklace looks fabby, love it.
awwww....well my first night at home with the new baby was something like this except the problem was caused by a visitors child! She was taking toys from my son, hitting him with it, and he tried to take his little elmo computer back from her and he let go, and it flew back & hit her in lip! And THEN her mother yelled at MY SON!! I asked them to leave. And she will not bring her hell child back to my house EVER. I couldn't believe that our first day at home, she INSISTED on coming over, I specifically asked her to NOT bring her daughter bc it was the dead of winter, and I didn't want a bunch of nasty kid germs around my 4 day old baby, she brought her anyway, and then she's mean to my son. I was PISSED.
LOL Oh I remember those days!
I'm often amazed at what I"ve survived...
Good job...you should be very proud. Because you did it beautifully.
You are so lucky to have your Mom come stay with you. I did my two (13 months apart in age) by myself. Fortunately my Daughter, the oldest was a great kid and only wanted to play Mommy just like me. It wasn't easy but we all survived!
Oh yes, I totally understand this post.
In fact, I feel it is my duty to warn all mothers having their second just what life might be like when they leave the hospital and are faced with two demanding children. Who are totally different. And act like alien children. And why you might cry.
Well, have you obeyed these rules???
Bless your heart. Somedays it's still like that, and my kids are 15 and 13!
I completely understand. How I survived the transition to two kids is beyond me. Why are we thinking about a third?
This one made me laugh out loud. It's good once you've assimilated the new person, isn't it?
Having a new baby is like learning to juggle with an additional ball. It just takes a little time to get that rhythm thing down!
=)
I often wonder what it would be like to have 2 kiddos close in age. I guess I know now! :)
Wow! I think you held it together pretty well.
This is a day in MY life after I had Li'l Bit! ;-) Didn't it seem like you had WAY MORE than 2 kids right after you first had him??
Ooooh I have so been there. But for me I was trying to nurse kid #2 while his older brother was in the bathtub (around the corner in the next room) and refused to get out of the tub by himself but demanded to be done with his bath. After much yelling back and forth and trying to convince him to "just get the hell out of the tub and dry yourself off already", I of course had to burst into tears... Why was I arguing with a 4 yr old anyway?!?!
