I was a personal add reject

My best friend sent this image my way
and the body of the e-mail read "Remember this?"
When I look back at my college years
I can remember doing some pretty ridiculous stuff.
Luckily, Erin is a pack rat and framed this little gem for me.

In an effort to do a character study
for a short story that I wanted to write
I took out this personal add in the local paper.
My theory was that I would base my characters
on the people who called to answer the add.

It failed miserably.
I only had 2 responses.
Both of which were from a set
of friends who had dared each other to answer the add.
They were both drunk and almost incoherent.

When that did not work I decided to try again.
I thought that surely there would be a young man
out there just weird enough to respond.
My second add looked like this

SF, 23, paranoid, nervous,
and much smarter than you,

ISO brilliant SM to slowly feed me grapes.

Not one person responded.

Then my good friend David and I
were bored one hot summer evening
and placed this add

Desperately Seeking Roth
to hang with David and Leigh.

Get it? I'll give you a minute.
David Lee Roth
Yeah...we were pretty bored.
Needless to say,
Roth never answered.

With that, my career as a
personal add reject ended.

I thought for sure that
I was going to have a hit on my hands.

Guess what? I really do hate sports, outdoors, and clowns. (And mimes worse than all of those.)

That was hilarious!

That is hysterical! You placed that and your friend framed it!! Classic! I can't believe you didn't get any answers with that come hither tone in your ad either!! LOL

Oh, that's so funny. If I was a guy and I read that, I'd think "now this girl has a sense of humor! I'll call her!" But I guess it didn't work that way, huh? Good thing I'm not a guy.

My mom had a giant poster of DAvid Lee Roth on our fridge when we were growing up...

That is so funny! Do people still use these personal ads?
I do know one woman who met her husband that way though!

Clearly no one was worthy of your sense of humor!

See, I think those are so freakin' hysterical that I don't know why no one responded...they're hilarious! I also think it's a tribute to your friend, Erin. It's really cute she saved it.

Just like kyslp, I hate sports and the outdoors. Clowns irritate me, too. Actually, I don't mind the outdoors in the spring or fall. I hate summer and winter, though.

I think it is funny that 2 drunk people responded to the one on a dare.

Well, it was a good thought, right? I think the failure in and of itself is pretty stinking funny!

Funny. They put a smile on my face and I'm in a bad mood tonight. So thanks. :)
