Bye bye baby!

Photobucket

A good friend of mine is having a baby boy next month. I decided to give her all of the boys' clothes. It was bitter sweet to go through the boxes of tiny jammies and onesies. I got a bit sentimental as I said goodbye to each tiny piece that I have been saving for so many years. Both of my boys wore these clothes and they hold so many sweet memories of those first days together. I left the boys with my husband for a bit and closed the door to sort through the clothes in privacy. I touched them all and took a moment to remember my baby boys in them. Then, I lovingly folded them up and placed them in a box to hand over to my dear friend who is just starting her journey into Motherhood.

We are hitting some milestones soon. Koen is almost a year old and he is quickly transforming into a toddler before my eyes. My last baby won't be a baby much longer. I can't hold onto his baby-ness forever and I can't let go of his first year with sadness.

I hope to always look forward with excitement as he reaches each milestone. Really, giving these clothes away is a milestone for me. I am moving forward with my son. He needs me too.

So, bye bye baby clothes...I'll miss your sweetness.
Please tell me that I'm not the only
woman that could make out with baby clothes!

AWw i think that is a mommy thing by far. I remember going through my boys clothes and being so sappy and weepy.. Be careful though each time I cleaned out clothes I wound up pregnant again lol.

You are not alone for sure! I haven't gotten rid of Lauren's clothes yet. We are pregnant with our second which is a boy and I am not convinced we are done having kids yet so I just can't bare to part with them even though we are having a boy this time. And I know that when I do get rid of them I will still hold on to several pieces that really meant a lot to me. You know the one we brought her home from the hospital in, her first picture outfit, something she looked really cute in. Oh man I may not be able to choose!!!

awwww...yep a total mommy thing..and no your not alone. I still have Hailey's clothes in a tote upstairs in a corner of my craft room...I just can't part with them, and yet she's 8 years old now...

Oh, this SO resonates with me. I have three boys and am (reasonably) sure we're done having kids. But the thought of getting rid of their baby clothes makes my heart seize up in my chest! When - and if - I do, I'll be a weepy mess, too.

It's so hard for me to give away baby stuff. I have given a away some clothes but still have the rest. I almost shed tears when we sold the exersaucer at a yardsale....

You are right, our big boys need us too!

I actually haven't gotten rid of any of my boys' baby clothing (mostly because I think we may have another one in the future.) But even when we are done, I'm not sure I'll be ready to give them away. They are so precious to me. I actually just cleaned out their drawers of too small clothes this weekend, and even taking out the size 2 clothes made me sad that my boys have gotten so big already.

The great thing about having my last little baby is that for some reason or another, knowing it is the LAST I have been able to remember so much more- if that makes any sense. Anyway, I'm sure your firend will appreciate the clothes!

I saved all my favorites from both of my girls. I plan to turn them into blankets for their kids.

But, even the clothes I did part with were hard to say goodbye too.

I love little baby clothes. I'm on number 1 of the 3 we are planning but sometimes I will tell my husband I need to 'go thru' them or reorganize because I miss the little clothes. My baby has newborns he never wore bc he was so big and now he is 8 months in 18 months so I feel cheated from his bitty clothes lol

I have saved some of my favorites for my grandchildren. When I pull out these baby clothes, I instantly tear-up. Sentimental Momma's... that's what we are!

It's so hard to part....especially those that have such amazing memories attached to them

I have kept a few favorites in a box. I have been trying to figure out how to make a quilt (with my poor sewing skills) from all the tiny clothes.

Totally understand. I have stood with old onesies in my hand, weeping, just before I put them in the Goodwill box.

I gave all my baby clothes to my sister, which made it a lot easier because I really didn't have to say good-bye.

I LOVE baby clothes. They don't even have to belong to my kids either. We're planning a 4th now. I'm not even pregnant and I already want to buy clothes!

I had a hard time getting rid of my daughters clothes too. I played the what if game a lot! In the end, my girlfriends daughter looks really cute in them. :)

I am not a really, really soft person, but when I was packing up my girls' onesies to give to a friend, I got teary eyed. I think I even held the clothes in my arms to remember how tiny they were.

You're not the only one. I promise - just look at all of us here.

Did you keep any really sentimental pieces? Because I did (shhh - hubs doesn't know)

Such a bittersweet time...but like everything in life, there is no one time that is the best. I think the best age is the age they currently are. :)

I love baby clothes, too. You are not alone!

p.s. Aren't little socks just the cutest?

I never saved any of the clothes that my children wore. Not even the things they came home from the hospital. That makes me sad. But I can't imagine having to sit and go through it all.

Good for you for passing it on to your friend!

Awww, that was so sweet. Your friend is lucky to have a generous friend like you. Some people won't part with those things.

I totally get it, although I did save a few special things like his first Christmas outfit, his first cowboy boots, etc...

p.s. they're still babies til they're at least 15! LOL

You're not alone...I get weepy over the tiny clothes, which is why I've saved some of my favorite things. But I do adore passing things along and it's a very "green" thing to do, so....I enjoy seeing someone else give life to our old things....sweet of you, leigh!

Just came back from Stir Fry's place. Shoes made of plywood? How do you walk? If I had your phone number, I would prank call you with that one.
