The Stay at Home Mom Chronicles: Vacuum Madness

I'm realizing that my days around here seem to run together.
Ordinary moments unfold around me daily
and I need to stop and relish in them.
One day, my boys will be out living life
and I will miss these everyday experiences.

So, I am taking the time to document
the simple moments that pass between us.
I'm calling this little collection of memories
The Stay At Home Mom Chronicles.

2:30 pm: Vacuuming the house with a crazy entourage

Wherever my vacuum roams, madness follows.
Both of my children have an interesting
relationship with the the vacuum cleaner.

Griffin has always loved it.
The only way that he could fall asleep when he was a baby was to the sound of the vacuum cleaner running.
My husband actually recorded the sound for him

and the tape would lull him to sleep nightly.

Now, he loves to taunt it with various Baseball Bats.
That means that if I'm vacuuming,
Griffin is chasing us around the house
laughing and screaming and wacking it with a bat.
It makes him so terribly happy that I let him get away with it.

Then there is sweet little Koen
who is terrified of the vacuum cleaner. Which means that if I am going to vacuum that he is going to be on my hip.

So, the three of us float around the house as the vacuum roars. Griffin circles us with glee, lunging, attacking, and howling with laughter. Koen holds on for dear life perched on my hip with a perplexed look on his sweet face as Griffin attacks this large loud machine.

It's an insane ritual that I will always cherish.

Very nice post. It's the little things that the kids are more likely to remember too. :)

There is something sweet about this!

My six year old still doesn't trust that the vacuum cleaner isn't going to suck up her toes!

The fact that your husband made a tape of vacuum noises cracks me up!

griffin is kinda like a jedi knight. i haven't yet figured out which side the vacuum cleaner is on yet...

koen, of course, is an ewok.

your household is like an academy award show waiting to happen.

They remind me of a cat and dog> How wonderful. Now teach them how to have fun pushing the vaccuum across the floor! Left you an award this a.m.! Have a great day!

hahaha my son used to be deathly afraid of the vacuum too, so I could only vacuum when Hubs was home to hold him tight! Then he got older, and less afraid, and I started threatening to chase him with it when he was doing something bad. lol And now he doesn't care, but I have to blast the tv so he can still hear it while I vacuum. Nonsense.

I LOVED this post! It totally trips me out because I can sooooo relate. Except that my girls (since they are girls, I guess) don't attack the vacuum--instead they pretend the vacuum is a dragon and they run from it, screaming (pretending to scream, which is really loud screaming) and running in circles. Until recently, i had the hold the baby on my hip. Recently, she decided to join in on the madness!

p.s. LOVE #1 your outfit in the first picture and #2 the bead-board and lavender walls in the hall-shot picture!
:)

This was so cute!

I thought vacuuming with the dog trying to attack the vacuum was difficult. After reading this, notsomuch.

It's sweet that the boys keep you company!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who vaccums with a boy on the hip.

I think it might count as a workout. At least half a workout.

your house is gorgeous! i love the wall color! to die!

ann claire wants to hold the handle
are you ready for this?

IN HER MOUTH

makes for tough vacuuming and henry just runs and chases and jumps over it and inevitably gets tangled in the cord.

i loved this post.

Purple walls! I LOVE them. What is it with kids, dogs and vacuums? My daughter is the same way now that she doesn't fear me running over her toes with it!

I'll trade hip boy for 2 year old who must put his toes directly in front f the vaccum cleaner, hoping you'll what? run them over?

Also I LOVE the purple and white room - what room is that?

Oh my! My oldest was completely in lurve with the vacuum. He used to watch the instructional video for our Rainbow obsessively.

My youngest? You guessed it. Terrified.

I have to keep my little one on my hip, too. She crawls -to- the vacuum but then sits there and cries. Doesn't make a lot of sense. Haha.

All of my kids seem to be scared of the vacuum. They stay as far away from it as possible. Sigh...

Your vaccum outfit is cuter than my Friday night outfit. Which lately is pajamas.

awww this is so nice! My daughter like to hide wherever I'm NOT vacuuming, and my son (who used to be terrified of the vacuum) chases in some sort of reenactment of Star Wars.

Hilarious! That first picture has a Good Housekeeping circa 1952 feel to it but with a bizarre twist. I think you have inspired me to make my own series of around the house photos!

Just think.

This is Griffin is practicing his future ninja skillz.

And Koen is practicing his ... um...hip checks! Yeah, that's the ticket, yeah. So he's going to be a hockey player, clearly.

Phew. I'm glad I could help.
