A wink to the housewife that I'll never be.

It's no secret that I am obsessed with the 1950's.
It just seemed like such an iconic time.
I mean, I know that it probably wasn't an ideal time
for feminism but there is just something
so beautiful to me about the simplicity of that era.

The biggest question that I get around here
is where do I get the images that I use.
Well, I collect magazines from the 1950's.
The flea market is like a dream come true for me.

I have over 20 issues of vintage Ladie's Home Journal Magazines.
Any time that I need an image for my blog,
I just plop down on the couch with an old issue
and step back into time.
Then I scan them in and wah lah...
my Blog instantly feels special.

I thought that I would share some of the best ones with you.
Feel free to copy them for your blog...
it's a little gifty from me to you!

Aren't these ladies dreamy?

I collect those old 40s and 50s mags, too, mainly for the ads. It makes me chuckle how much society has changed.

I'm a fan of the 50s, too. I was born in 1952, so I have some memories of that era. And they are pretty golden.

=)

These always remind me of my grandma. She was a young mom in the late 40s and early 50s. Pictures of her back then look like they are right out of one of these magazines.

I love those old pictures/ads. Always so much fun to see what was considered "motivating" back then. ;)

Oh Leigh--I love old magazines too! My great grandmother used to write for Harper's Bazaar in the 1930's and we have tons of Vogue and Bazaar magazines from that era. I like the mags of the 1950s too. I think what was so cool about that ear (like you said minus the inequality--of course nobody thinks that was cool) is that family values were paramount. It was cool to be a mom and have your kids happy. I think we bloggers are making an honest comeback in our own way!
