You Capture : Happiness

Something pretty amazing happened over the summer...
Griffin learned how to read.
He was just a little behind after graduating from Kindergarten
so my parents tutored him.

We called it Nana and Poppy school
and we are so blessed
that my mom is a Professor of Reading Education
and my dad is a retired elementary school teacher.

They worked so hard with him
and now he can read like a champ.
He worked hard to learn how to
print more clearly as well.

We decided to have a party to celebrate.

We gathered up all his favorite junk foods
cupcakes, potato chips, and chocolate chip cookies.
Then we had a super fun pig out fest in his honor.

As part of the ceremony,
he read a book to my father.
We were all so proud as he sounded
out every single word perfectly.

I could feel his confidence building as he read each word.

We gave him presents to say
congratulations for being a reader.
Then, he gave my parents presents
to say thank you for being such great teachers.

Getting that child to focus
when all he wanted to do was play
was a huge task, I know.
They stuck with him though
and for that I am so appreciative.

Then, my mom presented him
with a certificate for completing
their summer reading program.

Really though, the best gift that they
gave to him
was the gift of reading.

That is something that he will carry with him always.
This is beyond happiness!
