I helped chaperone a field trip
with Griffin's class
to a Gold Mine Tour.
This was my first time
going a class field trip with my kiddo
and it was so much fun!

There was gemstone mining.
Really, it was sifting through a bucket of sand
that had gemstones planted in them.
It didn't matter though,
it still felt like an adventure.

The water washed off the sand
to expose all kinds of beautiful gems.

Griffin would yell "I'M RICH!"
every single time he discovered a new stone.
every single time he discovered a new stone.
Then, we traveled down into a real Gold Mine.
It was dark and damp.
I felt like a Goonie as we
went deeper and deeper into the mine.
It was easy to let your imagination
run wild with the history of the mine.
We all imagined that we heard people yelling
"FIRE IN THE HOLE!" before TNT exploded.
I could just see the dusty men
as they pushed a mine car
full of gold down those tracks.

There were even little bitty brown bats
hibernating all over the rocks.
They were so cute,
just look at that little guy's ears.
We had a blast.

That looks like a great trip, I would have had a great time there too.
Where is that, Leigh? My boys would LOVE it.
That looks so cool!!
Hello, I'm new! I started happiness photos on Monday on my blog and then noticed you had a lovely linky party going on, so here I am. Love your set of photos, what a cool field trip. Thank you for hosting. Becsx
Wow! I use to love to go on the field trips with the class. ~ That was before we started homeschooling and then there was no time for field trips. One year I was the mom in charge of 8 little boys taking them to the Nutcracker. When I first saw all my kids I thought "Oh! NO! this is going to be hard!" But! those boys LOVED the show and were just perfect the whole time. Who would have thunk it?!
That sounds pretty awesome.
OH that looks like such fun.. except for the cave.. umm yeah I would lose it with that. I hate caves and going down in them would flip me out. Once again proving you are waaaay braver then I.
Your son will never forget the excitement of panning for "gold" but he will always remember that you were one of the moms who took the time to go on the field trip. Well done!
Oh wow! So fun.
What a cool field trip...my boys would love that place. Have a great week.

What a cool field trip. And that mine looks fascinating!
Best of all, of course, had to be striking it rich, time after time.
;)
What a neat field trip!
Eeeek! (to the bats)
What a fun adventure!
great pics from a nice adventure :)
I used to work in a gymnastics facility and during our summer camp I got to take the kids on their field trips. We did this three times and I love it every time. So did the kids. SO fun! Thanks for jogging my memory about a happy time in my distant past. =)
I remember doing that as a kid. Very exciting
Such fun! Although the mine looks a bit scary. (Probably because I've been playing too many video games lately.) Glad that it was well lit! Love the cute little bats too. (As long as they stay asleep.) Have a great week!
I love reading your blog...you crack a mama up! Ok...the mining thing would be a no way in my book! :)

It was such a pleasure to meet you and spend time chatting on the way to the mine. I love your photos! They are so beautiful and do a wonderful job capturing the essence of the trip.
