You Capture : My ten favorite photos from 2011!

While rummaging through all the photos
that I took over the course of last year,
it dawned on me how much I love to photograph nature.

I get so inspired by the beauty that surrounds me.

So, I decided that my favorite photos
were the ones taken outside in natural light.
You can't find a more stunning color palette
than the one that God created.

Here are my top 10 photos from 2011.

Stay-at-home moms vs Working Moms

My weekly column is up over at Athens Patch.
A recent study revealed who the happiest moms are.

Please join the conversation over at Athens Patch
and let me know what you think about the findings.
I am really curious to know your opinion on the subject!

Click here to hop on over and comment.

Let's Play, Mama!

I'm not sure if my fellow mama's out there
feel the same way that I do about their children's toys.
Maybe it's because I get down and play on the ground with them pretty often
because I end up having a relationship with their stuff.

Over the holiday, as we emptied boxes of new toys and games,
I found myself surrounded by all kinds of new games and activities.

Photobucket

I pushed wooden trains on winding tracks
and then I rebuilt tracks that
were thrown and tossed around the room.

Keeping a train table track intact is tricky with a wild 2 year old.

Photobucket

I ate wooden food that was "cooked" on a grill.
My little chef shoved corn on the cob
and Shish Kabobs into my face
and exclaimed "yummy!"

Sometimes we put pretend ketchup on pretend shrimp.

Photobucket

I became a little fire breathing dragon
as I played Skylander for Wii with Grifffin.
I actually enjoy playing Spryro, it's pretty fun
and imaginative.

I get a hundred million gazillion cool points
from Griffin because I play video games with him.

Photobucket

I jumped and cheered as Griffin
built up the nerve to ride on
the new zip line that he got for Christmas.

It took him a bit but
he eventually zipped on by like a pro.

Photobucket

Even though my little adventurer
got a lift on daddy's shoulders,
he felt like a big boy.

Our backyard was transformed
to a high flying
zip zapping
good time.

What toys did you find yourself playing with over the holidays?

52 Weeks of Happiness :: Week 43

Photobucket

We had sushi on New Year's Eve,
just the two of us.

We have this little sushi place
that plays really loud Techno music
and is in a shopping center
with a movie theater right next to it.

It's the perfect place for date night
because you can indulge in adult libations
and then stumble next door
to sober up a bit during the movie
before you have to drive home.

Photobucket

We realized that we didn't have enough time
to sit and relax and finish our wine

before the movie started
so we swiped a to go cup

and covertly took it

into the movie with us.

We giggled and drank sips of wine,

out of a Styrofoam cup,

through a straw,

and watched the film Sherlock Holmes.

I almost fell asleep twice.

Photobucket

Later that evening,
we toasted the New Year with champagne,
20 minutes before midnight,
in our messy kitchen.

Photobucket

Then we ended the night
by shooting off fireworks

on our driveway.

We howled at the moon

and shouted and yelled

and made all the dogs

in our sleepy neighborhood bark.

It was a simple and sweet celebration

with the man I love.

How did I get so lucky?

P.S. Please take a moment to read my pledge, it's a pledge to you!

I Pledge Allegiance to Leigh vs. Laundry

Photobucket

I discovered a simple truth in 2011...whatever you choose to give your attention to will thrive. I decided sometime last year that my attention was needed in my home and in building up my writing chops with my weekly column over at Athens Patch. I quit responding to comments left on here on the ol' bliggidy blog. I quit stopping by to visit all the folks who left links for 52 Weeks of Happiness. I quit doing my daily visit of fellow blogs. I stripped my blogging life to down to the bare minimum, it needed to happen.

Well, my children have grown, my column has blossomed, my home somehow stayed messy, and this blog has coasted. The truth is, I miss y'all. I miss interacting with my fellow bloggers. I miss knowing what made you smile last week. I miss hearing about your children and reading about your life. I miss the readers that used to stop by that have moved on because I was not tending to this space.

So instead of making a New Year's Resolution, I am making a pledge to Leigh vs Laundry.

I pledge to respond to comments left on this blog.

I pledge to visit and comment on the people who participate in my happiness carnival.

I pledge to visit other blogs.

While I'm at it...

I pledge to break up with French fries.

I pledge to finally finish my novel.

I pledge to pick up a toy after I stub my toe on it
and not just yell bad words at it.

I pledge to walk on my treadmill instead of pile my laundry on top of it.

What is your pledge for 2012?
