The other day I was at the grocery store pondering a purchase in the deli meat area. A sweet looking old man who looked to be in his eighties came whizzing by on his motorized scooter. He stopped his little scooter dead in his tracks and said to me "You look nice today." I blushed and said "Thank you." He then replied "I'm in artist so I have an eye for pretty things and just had to tell you." Then he whizzed away. God bless that old man because I floated through the rest of the grocery store feeling prettier than ever.
That night at the dinner table, we all took turns sharing one good thing that happened to us that day. ( Yeah, we're that dorky family that does that every night at dinner) I shared the little grocery store exchange with the table and my husband tried his hardest to hide the fact that he wanted to be give that old man a knuckle sandwich for chattin' up his lady. I love this about him, if another man checks me out, my husband puffs up his chest like a good old fashioned gentleman should. Instead, he smiled and said "You do look really pretty today."
Hmmmm...I need to wear that shirt more often.
So, fast forward two days later. It's Easter and I have on a fancy shmancy new Easter dress. I actually took a shower and flat ironed my hair to look presentable for the annual family Easter Egg hunt at my mother-in-law's house. When Griffin saw me he exclaimed
"Mommy, you look so pretty, you look like a work of art."
Of course my heart melted and he was promptly covered with hugs and kisses.
If he can hold onto that line and use it on his prom date later in life,
then he is going to be a ladies' man for sure.
He must have really been listening when
I told the story of my eighty year old boyfriend at the grocery store.
For a woman like me who spends most of my day
covered in baby drool and finger paints,
it's nice to know that I still got it.
Even if it's just with eighty year old men and five year old boys.

awwww that's sweet. My son always tells me I look pretty, but I think I've probably trained him that way! lol
Awwwwwww...and thank heavens for those 80 year old men and little boys(and girls too!)...or us moms would start to feel rather invisible!
I'm with you, I take them from wherever I get them.
That is awesome. WE all need to be reminded of our beauty and sometimes even our worth. Isn't it grand when God puts someone right there out of nowhere to remind us.. even 80 yr old men and especially 5 yr olds..
That's about the only demographic that checks me out these days too, but compliments are compliments, and I'll take 'em! :)
I love this.
Aww what a sweet story :)
That is the sweetest thing I've read as of late. How adorable.
My six year old tells me I'm pretty or beautiful at least every other day. I take it where I can get it too!!! LOL!
:)
Precious!
Blessings, andrea
That is too sweet!
This seriously made my day. I love that the men in your life including your little guy knows exactly how to pay a compliment. If all men only knew exactly how much those little compliments really meant to us and uplifted our days.
What a great story... so sweet. Nothing like a good compliment to make you feel fabulous.
Oh my goodness, that has got to be the sweetest thing ever!
I think that getting a compliment for an old man is the best thing ever. If you think about it, they must have seen a lot of women in their lives and if they are complimenting you they are doing it because they mean it, not because they are trying to pick you up.
I KNEW I was prettier than I thought I was!!!
That is so sweet - boys can melt your hearts sometimes!
What a way to make your day! On both occasions.
I have to say, Ward is good with handing out compliments even when I look like crap. Bless him!
Little boys are always good for a compliment. That's where I get al(most) all of mine.
What would we do without sweet old men and adorable little boys!
So precious. And you still got it Mama..for sure.
So sweet and random for that old man to stop and make your day! And at Griffin's age, it's totally innocent and sincere when they give those compliments! What a sweet boy.
That is seriously awesome.
Like when Sean (my 8 year old) takes my face in both hands and says "you're my most beautifullest mommy ever" it really makes my day. Especially since he'll say this when I first wake up in the morning and I look more like Quasimodo, only less attractive.
i wanna look good. tell me your secret.
once, li'l tot was all like... "mommy! you look like a star!"
i think it was because my face was shiny.
I love this and me thinks you are pretty too.
I had a gay girl that I work with explain me as the good loking gal in the office the other day. She asked me if it offended me and I was like "Hell no, I will take any compliment I can get these days" And then I kissed her on the cheek. :) She now thinks I am the good looking nut job in the office!
This gave me the BIGGEST smile!! How sweet, all of it! I especially love how your husband a) still gets a little jealous and b) covered so well. :-) (I'm thinking at least one Happiness pic needs to be the shirt!) ;-)
Oh I LOVED this post! I think the 80 year old men and 5 year old boys are the ones that see the most clearly! Compliments are the best!
how sweet! when my nephew was little, about 10 years ago, he was shopping at the mall with my mom. He passed by the perfume counter and noticed "Beautiful" by Estee Lauder. He said, "I want to buy that for my mommy because she's beautiful." My mom thought it was so sweet that she bought it and let him give it to my sister.
I can't wait to hear by little boy say something cute like that...or even an 80 year old stranger would be nice, lol.
How lovely! It's especially nice when someone you don't know stops and says something sweet.
Awww both those compliments would make my day.
