52 Weeks of Happiness :: Week 32

Photobucket

Composing a hand written letter.

I read
this article recently
about the fact that hardly anyone

writes letters anymore.

I was inspired to scout out some pen pals

and asked my Facebook friends

if anyone wanted to exchange letters.

Nine people said yes.

I was thrilled.

I bought stamps at the grocery store.

It felt so odd yet so familiar.

We usually pay our bills on-line

so I rarely have the need to buy a book of stamps.

It was kind of exciting.

I even made a special trip to the store

to pick up some new stationary.

I have enjoyed the feeling of putting pen to paper.

It's been so fun to sit down
and see what comes pouring out of me.

I've written a letter a day
for almost a week now.

I still have some letters to write

and I'm actually looking forward to it.

I feel connected in a new way.

<span class=

There is a simple happiness to be found in

putting up the red flag on my mailbox

as it holds my handwritten letters
to be sent to my long lost friends and acquaintances.

I've discovered an adventurous feeling
that stirs within me
when I shut the mailbox tight
and wish the letters
well on their journey.

I feel like I am

rediscovering a lost art.

I miss writing letters. I had a friend with whom I would write letters. It fizzled out over time as she traveled often and was gone for months at a time. My letters would sit unopened and be so very out of date by the time she go to them. She said she always felt overwhelmed at responding she finally did sit down to do so...sadly she stopped.

How very exciting! I love and miss letter writing. Paper makes me happy *grin*

Love this post. There is something very romantic about handwriting letters and the sweet anticipation of checking the mailbox in the following weeks to get a new letter mailed just to you!

I agree. There is nothing quite like the small joy of opening a hand written letter.

I used to write so many people - I love to write notes and letters - you should see my stationary drawer! I never do it anymore!

I just received a handwritten letter last week, and it made me over the top happy. I still need to return the favor.

I love letter writing! I remember having pen pals as a child. Think our kids are missing on that.

How wonderful :) I actually make my kids write letters to their cousins in California, so they can experience the old fashioned mail routine... Happy Tuesday Leigh

What a great initiative! And how happy your friends must be to receive such beautiful letters.

I LOVE handwritten letters!! They are so precious.

One of my best friends sends me a little handwritten note about once a month. I have saved all of them, and sometimes I pull them out and reread them.

There's nothing like a personal note or letter, penned in the writer's own hand.

I hope we never lose sight of the treasures of life before technology.

=)

YEs! I love hand written letters! No one sends them anymore... Aren't they a joy to receive??

Technology is great and all--but there is nothing quite like a handwritten letter. It's a lost art, I am sad to say. You are helping to revive it.

LOVED this.

I love getting "happy mail"! Letter writing has definitely gone by the wayside. I agree that it is time to bring it back.

How fabulous! I love the year of happiness and i love the beauty of pen pals. I miss getting things in that mail that are not requesting payment.

Thank you for sharing two inspirations on this Sunday!

I love the depth of field in these photos. So warm and intimate. I agree with you; there is something special about getting handwritten letters. Just a bit more personal than an e-mail.
