52 Weeks of Happiness :: Week 44

DSC_0145

I've had a creative surge lately
and have made tons of progress on a novel
that I'm dreaming up.

I sit down at my sacred space in front of my keyboard
and the words seem to just fall from my fingers
as I tap tap until sentences become paragraphs.

I love the creative process.
There are few things more thrilling for a writer
than a blank sheet of paper.

Jotting ideas on creative outlines
and watching the story unfold is so much fun.
I'm honored that the characters have chosen to come to me.

This is my year, I can feel it.
I'm going to finish what I started.

I have a story that needs to be told.

Who Walked Down this Path?

DSC00140

We love to go on long walks while were at the Plantation
and while we meander we enjoy playing a little game.

We scout out footprints (I should say hoof and paw prints)
left on the road and try to
guess what creatures walked down the road before us.

See if you can guess who took the same path.

Scenes from the Windmill Plantation

We paid a visit to our favorite cabin in the woods
for a few days after Christmas.

Here is a little taste of the things we saw and did...

I just love the contrast of masculine and feminine in the cabin.
It's obviously a "gentlemen's" cabin, designed for hunters.

Yet when it's injected with the smells of tasty food
being made in the kitchen by loving hands
or sweet little flowers resting on the windowsill,
it serves as a cozy little haven for the mamas too.

It's the best place to make memories as a family.

52 Weeks of Happiness :: Week 43

DSC_0109-1

We decided to have a low key New Year's Eve this year,
with a cheap bottle of champagne to pop open
after we put the kiddos to bed.

DSC_0118-1

Roger used his manly skills to build the perfect fire for us.
(Really he just shoved one of those starter logs in there and lit it up)
Everything seems so much more special in the flickering light of a fire.

I tossed together some brie
with maple syrup, toasted pecans
and a few sliced apples.

It was an ooey gooey treat.

We curled up on the couch together
and watch The Lord of the Rings.

When the clock struck midnight,
we wrapped ourselves up in snuggles and smooches.

I can't think of a better way to
ring in the new year.
