A Brief Intermission

I'm helping to chaperone

Griffin's class camping trip for a few days

while Roger stays home with Koen.

 Wish me luck as I'll be

in a cabin with 16 smelly boys.

I'm brushing up on my fart jokes to get street cred.

The Happiness Project :: Week 5

We celebrated Koen's 4th Birthday over the weekend. 

It was sweet and simple homespun party.

My mom made these cute little cupcakes

with Dinosaur eggs on them and orange frosting,

all at Koen's request.

The children watched a dinosaur presentation

and were able to touch real dinosaur bones and fossils.

They were all mesmerized. 

 

The weather was perfect for a "Dino dig".

Each kid grabbed a shovel

and searched for bones and teeth.

They found some amazing stuff.

Even the big kids had fun

making discoveries.

Koen felt a little nervous when it was 

time for everyone to sing Happy Birthday.

A moment after this photo was taken

he broke out into big ol' crocodile tears.

He cried during the entire song

while hiding in my chest.

It's hard being the 4-year-old birthday boy

but it was still super cute.

The Last Freakshow Friday

Freakshow Friday is retiring, y'all. After 4 long years! It's time. Last week my mom was the only person who entered. (Love ya, mom!) Conversations with Koen

My almost 4 year old says some pretty funny things.

I want to always remember them

so please indulge me as I write

a record of how adorable he is at this age.

Conversation at bedtime:

K: I'm mad at Griffin because he doesn't listen to me.

Me: Well, one day when y'all grow up, you'll be the best of friends.

 Thougtful pause

K: We'll have to buy really big car seats then.

While opening his Easter basket:

"Thank you, Easter Bunny!"

Side glance my way

"I was pretending just then."

While gazing into my eyes:

K: Your eyeballs have red cracks in them.

Me: I know, that means mommy is tired.

K: I hope that they don't break.

Places We Love : Canopy

Koen took his first trapeze class

at our favorite place, Canopy.

At first he wasn't so sure about the whole thing.

 

It took him a little bit to warm up to it.

But with a little help from his sweet teacher

and just an ounce of courage,

he took to it in no time.

 

I love my little high flyer.

He's been begging to go back all week.

The Happiness Project :: Week 4

Easter was so much fun.

After church, we all gathered at my

parents' house to eat lunch.

My mom always sets a sweet table.

It makes the occasion seem so fancy and fun.

She even made gluten free/soy free cake!

It was ssssooooo yummy!

This awesome hat was waiting for me.

I perched it on my head and wore it during lunch

and felt pretty snazzy.

My mom got it at the flea market for me.

I'm pretty sure that it's vintage.

It sort of smelled like soup.

 

Of course,

the boys opened Easter baskets

and had an Easter egg hunt

but I was too busy enjoying the moment

and forgot to take pictures.

It happens to the best of us.

Instead, I'll share a picture

of a walking chicken

that poops gum.
