A Year of Happiness

I can't believe that I just completed year 3

of scouting out happiness in my life.

It's such a treasure to have a record

of the simple moments that bring me joy.

Each moment stacks up to create one big beautiful picture.

A picture of vintage swim caps,

children flying through the air,

a pile of bright pumpkins,

a cabin in the woods

birthday cake,

flowers.

I've learned that happiness

can be found at any moment.

It can be a huge experience

or a tiny small feeling.

It's in amazing accomplishments

and family celebrations.

Happiness is all around us,

we just have to stop and enjoy it.

We can't stop now.

At this point, it's a like a reflex

for me to document 

these wonderful gifts.

I've decided to go back to my roots 

and rename The 52 Weeks of Happiness.

So, were back to

The Happiness Project.

I don't want anyone to feel discouraged

and quit if they can't participate every week for a year.

So, please join me when you can.

I promise that your life will

quickly feel blessed

when you stop to acknowledge your blessings.

52 Weeks of Happiness :: Week 52

We took a trip to The Windmill Plantation
 in South Georgia last weekend.

We were so happy to see that the 70 acre pond was full.

Over the years the pond had dried up due to the drought

but thanks to a few weeks of rain, the water was replenished.

I managed to escape from the cabin 

for a bit to go on a walk alone.

I wandered over to the pond as the sun was setting.

I love the way that the Cypress knees 

look like spirits rising out of the water.

I came upon an old bridge that led to an island on the pond. 

It was rickety and creaked as I took each step forward.

I was a little nervous that the boards 

might break and send me tumbling into the water.

I mustered up my courage

and made it all the way across.

It was worth the journey just

to watch the wind blow

zig zag reflections of the trees on the water.

I sat alone

and watched the sun set over

the serene water.

It was such a lovely evening.

The Smallest Gifts

One thing that I love about Griffin

is that he jumps at any opportunity to pick me a flower.

I make it a point to swoon

over the small blooms as he hands them over.

It's a with sincerity that I melt

but I do my best to let him know

how much it means to me.

I always encourage chivalry in my boys

and hope that they will be

a shining light in a dim world when 

they grow into men.

His grubby little fingers

are so gentle with the buds

as he presents the flower to me

 and I can see that he will

always have an appreciation 

for the little things in life.

I have a collection of pressed flowers

that he has handed to me over the years,

the pages of an old book

have the sweet smell of love

tucked between the pages.

The smallest gifts seem to mean the most.
