Date #24

Photobucket

When I watch the film Big Night
it makes me want to
cook yummy food,
dance the night away,
drink fine wine,
and enjoy the best things in life.

So we did just that,
without the dancing.

It was a fantastic night!

Here are the recipes...

Pear, Gorgonzola, and Walnut Crescent Pizza

* I package crescent rolls
* 4 ounces sliced provolone cheese
* 1 Bosc pear, thinly sliced
* 2 ounces chopped walnuts
* 2 1/2 ounces Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
* 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
2. Place crescent roll dough on a medium baking sheet. Layer with Provolone cheese. Top cheese with Bosc pear slices. Sprinkle with walnuts and Gorgonzola cheese.
3. Bake in the preheated oven 8 to 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and crust is lightly browned. Remove from heat. Top with chives and slice to serve.

I found the cheapest bottle of Sauvignon Blanc at Walmart.
It was $2.97 to be exact.
Sometimes the cheapest bottles are the best.

Did you find romance over the weekend?

Christmas Came Early

So, as you know,
we built our dream backyard
but there was only one problem.

Photobucket

The stairs leading up to the play area
were these crazy metal stairs with no railing
that were here when we bought the house years ago.

Photobucket

Let me just show you a few
things that were terrifying about these stairs.

Let's start with the fact that
they are all rusty and look
like a Tetanus shot waiting to happen.

Also take note that they are leaning
on cinder blocks that are
perched on top of a steep hill.

Did I mention that there were no railings?

I feared for our lives
every single time
we walked up and down
those rotten old steps.

Photobucket

My parents surprised us and sent
some nice men over to build
a new set of stairs for us
as an early Christmas gift.

I think that they feared for our lives as well.

Koen was in absolute heaven as he
watched the men build the stairs.
It was quite an event.

Photobucket

We decided to have another
ribbon cutting ceremony.

We had a cookie cake that said
"NEW STAIRS".
I hung up a banner that said
"Up We Go"
at the top of the steps.

Griffin did the honor of saying a few words.
"I hereby proclaim that these stairs are ready to be climbed!"
he said as he cut the ribbon.

Photobucket

Then we all took turns
running up and down the stairs.
We shouted and danced all over them.

Photobucket

Thanks so much Nana and Poppy
for making our backyard complete.
I'll remember this gift
while we open Christmas presents, I swear!

We love our new stairs!!!

Retro Post in Honor of My Birthday!!!

I wrote this post 2 years ago
and decided to repost it
in honor of my birthday being today!!

Today is my birthday!

Woo Hoo!
We have a little inside joke about birthdays
around here that I thought I'd let you in on.

When I was growing up my dad was a clown that performed at birthday parties. He once performed at a nursing home for a man that was turning 90. My dad described this sweet old man as sitting in a wheelchair and donning a Birthday boy crown. The performance was going well until the elderly man fell into a fit of jealousy that all of the party goers were paying attention to my dad instead of him.

As the story goes, he angrily wheeled himself to the front of the room and starting yelling at the top of his lungs "I'm the birthday boy, ignore that clown!!!" My dad tried to talk over him and finish the act quickly but the man just continued to wheel himself back and forth in front of the performance yelling obscenities.

He made such a scene that a nurse had to wheel the poor guy into the hallway to calm him down. My dad just continued his act (the show must go on) but could hear the angry old fart shouting through the door..."I'm the birthday boy, ignore that clown!!!" over and over and over and over. Now, every time I have a birthday I wake up in the morning and shout

"I'm the birthday girl, ignore that clown!"
